How It All Began

The Covenant between the New England Conference of the United Methodist Church and our Covenant and ministry partners in Nicaragua was formed to accompany one another in solidarity as a response to the unjust and inequitable differences between North and South, rich and poor.  In response to the healing ministry of our Lord Jesus Christ, we develop and support programs that enhance the lives of the poorest of the poor in Nicaragua.

The covenant was established in 1986  providing financial support for children feeding programs, rural teachers, and women's empowerment through sewing schools. A mission house was secured and teams from the US started traveling to Nicaragua to support our work. A mobile medical clinic was started in 2007.

With the social unrest in Nicaragua in 2018, the organization reached a point that it could no longer maintain a staff in Nicaragua. However, The Nica Covenant organization continues to provide support to elementary schools, college scholarships, women's sewing programs, and emergent needs.  Our hope is to begin sending Mission Teams to Nicaragua again to continue building relationships and supporting important work in the areas of education, clean water access and sanitation to improve the lives of every day Nicaraguans.  Until such time and opportunities are presented we are supporting schools, scholarship and women's sewing programs through scholarships and stipends.  To date, we are pleased to report that the generosity of our donors has allowed us to keep these legacy programs available to support children, college students and women seeking a better future during these difficult times.  With your help we can do even more.
